Clement Chen is an Associate at BIH LI & LEE LLP.
Clement is a former Singapore government prosecutor who specialized in prosecuting serious and syndicated crimes, and also provided legal advice to the law enforcement agencies of the Singapore government on complex investigations and sensitive matters.
Since entering private practice, Clement has specialized in commercial dispute resolution work. He has taken the lead / assisted in multiple Court of Appeal and High Court hearings on matters relating to, amongst other things, personal and corporate insolvency, corporate and commercial disputes, shareholder litigation, and tort and contractual claims. In addition, he has advised on a wide range of commercial matters including but not limited to intellectual property, insurance claims between the insured and the insurer, debt recovery, employment disputes and/or termination, defamation, negligence, fiduciary duties, breach of confidentiality, tenancy disputes, and protection of personal data.
Separately, Clement has advised on, reviewed, and prepared agreements relating to, amongst other things, supply chain and logistics, product endorsements, licensing, sale and purchase of goods and/or services, joint venture, and employment.
Clement was called to the Singapore Bar in January 2015
Successfully acted for the Singapore Shooting Association and its committee members in defending a claim by the Singapore Rifle Association for unlawful conspiracy, wherein the Court of Appeal determined as a novel point of law that legal fees incurred in investigating, detecting, unravelling and/or mitigating a conspiracy cannot constitute actionable loss or damage in the tort of unlawful means conspiracy.
Acted for the defendant in assessment of damages proceedings.
